This page answers the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) regarding Peter's CamViewer JavaScript. Because of the nature of the script (freeware), I can't give any support to unregistered users other than this FAQ page. Technical support is provided to registered users only. Please feel free to send me your questions, findings and/or suggestions so I can include them in this page or in the script.

Why this CamViewer JavaScript?

In December 2000 I was asked to develop the code for a CamViewer for www.westbroek.com and which was based on the NaNuCamViewer. I didn't like the way the images and page were (re)loaded on behalf of META tags and decided that this could be much improved by using JavaScript.

Why can't I use animated gifs?

Animated gifs will fire the script over and over again when looping resulting in slow responding or even crashing browsers.

Images are not shown in Netscape 6.x

Netscape 6.x is based on versions of Mozilla prior to version 1.0 and (thus) full of bugs causing the CamViewer JavaScript not to function. The problem is caused by wrong handling of the onLoad event in Netscape/Mozilla. See Bugzilla Bug 62288 for more technical details.

I only get an empty page

In almost any case this is caused by one or more missing " or ; characters in the script part of the page.

I see a small (sometimes changing) line and/or pixels in the lower left part of the page, is this a bug?

No, this is not a bug, it is actually a feature. The line and/or pixels you are seeing is were the images are preloaded in a size of 1x1 pixel before they are shown full-size in the table. This feature prevents partly and/or blurry images being visible during download. In this way only fully downloaded images should be visible. It is not possible to make this line disappear completely, this is as small/invisible as it can get.

May I remove the visible copyright notice and link at the bottom of the page?

Yes, this visible copyright notice and link may be removed but I would appreciate it if you leave it as it is. However, the copyright notice and the comments within the script part of the page must always remain intact.
